My son who is nearly 5 has so much energy! He has very strong opinions about what he likes and gets bored easily if it doesn’t really catch his attention! Below you will find a gift for a 5 year old boy that will keep him entertained and engaged! These are things we have tried and absolutely love!

Have other kids? Check out my other gift guides here!

Why We Love Them:

If you haven’t discovered the wonderful world of Gerald and Piggie in the Elephant and Piggie Series then you are seriously missing out! These books are so fun, even I enjoy reading them!

My kids love love these books and they are great beginning readers for your newly reading 5 year old!

These are a great addition to any family library and will be loved by you readers in years to come too!

Why We Love Them:

We are currently in a major monster truck phase! My son loves to drive monster trucks everywhere!

He makes ramps and jumps them, pillows and crawls over them, whatever he can think of! And he loves them.

The best part is these aren’t a huge toy, so they can travel with us. And they’re easy to find a place in the toy closet!

Why We Love Them:

Kinetic sand is so cool to play with! I jump in and play with my kids whenever they pull it out!

It feels and looks just like sand, but it’s like magnetic! It sticks to itself and it so fun!

Occasionally it will be messy, but for the most part my kids keep in in the container we have it in and we just sweep it up when we are done!

Why We Love Them:

Stomp Rockets are so much fun! You just set up the rocket and then have an air bag type thing you stomp on and up shoots the rocket!

My son goes nuts for these, and loves every chance he can to use his!

Make sure you use these in an area where you can track where the rockets go! We’ve lost a few over fences, and on roofs of houses.

Why We Love Them:

Everyone knows how awesome Legos are! But it’s so fun when this world of possibility is opened up to your son!

My son doesn’t love to build the sets right now, but he loves legos! He has one of the big boxes full of legos, and he creates all sorts of interesting and fun creations!

Legos make a great gift for a 5 year old boy who loves to build!

Why We Love Them:

These exploration kits have everything a kid could want! And they’re a great gift for a 5 year old boy who loves to adventure and explore!

My son loves the binoculars and is hilarious about using them and seeing everyone closer to him!

It’s a great excuse to get your son outside and exploring rather than glued to a screen!

Why We Love Them:

We have a couple of sets of kid walkie talkies and our kids love to see how far away they can get them to keep working.

They love to hide and try to find each other and overall just really enjoy the walkie talkies!

I remember them not working well as a kid, but they must have figured out how to make the frequency work better, because my kids can talk to their friends across the street!

Why We Love Them:

My son wanted a remote control car so bad! But I was worried he would drive it once, smash it into the curb and it would be broken, and there goes $35!

But my husband was much wiser than me and knew about a crawler remote control car! These don’t go crazy fast, but they’re really good at climbing things.

So they work well in grass and gravel, and they can climb up rocks and other things as well. This has been so fun for my son, and he loves having his own remote control car!

Why We Love Them:

I’ll be honest, I have a love hate relationship with our fort building kit! It’s really not something a 5 year old can build himself even though they claim it is!

But once I set it up and get blankets over it, I love it! They love to play in it and watch movies and it is a really fun way to build a fort!

The pieces are pretty sturdy and we haven’t had any of them break or have any issues.

So if you’re willing to spend the time to put this together, it is really awesome and really fun!

Why We Love Them:

I have never had a kid come over who hasn’t absolutely loved this hot wheels setup! It has 4 different spinners that push the cars onto the track, and they go around and around.

We try to see how many cars we can get going at the same time. And eventually they crash and all sorts of commotion happens!

Kids LOVE this track. It’s the best one I’ve seen so far, and I would recommend the investment!

I hope you were able to find the perfect gift for a 5 year old boy! We love all of these items above and hope you’ll find something great too!
