It’s no secret, we LOVE General Conference Around here! My kids countdown days, just like they do for Christmas! Why do they love it so much? Let me share all my best General Conference Ideas for Kids! I hope you and your family get to enjoy General Conference as best as you can!

If you have never listened to general conference you can find it here on the first weekend of April and October every year! It’s a weekend full of inspirational messages about Jesus Christ, and we always leave better than we came!

How we do General Conference...

I love the weekend full of family time at General Conference. But I put a lot of prep into making sure it’s a weekend that’s enjoyable! If you’re reading this, you’re probably like me and want it to be a positive experience for everyone involved, including our small children! And that’s why I put in the prep time! It’s worth the work before General Conference so that once conference is here we can all just sit down and enjoy!

If you haven’t read this post about our general conference bags, go read it first! Then the rest of this post will make a whole lot more sense, don’t worry, I’ll wait right here for you while you check it out!

These General Conference bags make all the difference. I usually try and put in quiet activities that we can either do all together. Or I put in activities that they can do on their own without any help, so that we can listen! I’ve been amazed to hear how much they actually listen while they’re coloring, glueing, crafting and more.

In addition, they totally look forward to general conference! They love the time they get to spend as a family, listening to the words of the prophets and being creative! Go ahead and put whatever your kids like in these bags, it doesn’t have to be just crafts! Some people prefer for every bag to have something spiritual in there. Others, like me, just like something that keeps them listening and quiet so we can listen! Whatever you prefer, these bags work wonders!

General Conference Note Taking for Kids

I have had this General Conference Note Taking for kids for a few years now! This year I created a new one that can reflect on the whole session or even the whole conference. In the past I have used the first printable for the talks I definitely wanted my kids to listen to, like President Nelson. But they lost interest in filling it out for every single speaker.

So the new General Conference Note Sheet is less specific about each speaker and more about asking questions, paying attention to impressions and writing downs ways to act. This one seems like it would work better for Senior Primary and Youth!

I try to go into conference with a question in my mind, and listen for answers, either spoken or felt. This definitely helps me engage in conference more. And that’s the whole reason behind this new Note sheet, to engage kids more in general conference. To help them recognize the Spirit they feel, and to help them ask questions and find answers from good sources!

General Conference Ideas for Young Children

General Conference I Spy

I recently created a new General Conference I Spy for younger children. This is fun to even just color if they can’t count yet! (Our favorite markers are found here) And can be used for nursery age to youth and everyone loves it! An activity like this is one I would use for one of our General Conference Bags, and would take about a speaker to finish!

I usually set up a folding table with kraft paper on top for my kids to do all their activities on. But if you’re tight on space these kids lap desks are awesome and work great too! Plus they keep the mess confined to one small area!

General Conference Coloring

General Conference Mandala

I don’t know about you, but I can usually listen better if I am coloring! It just puts my mind in a different zone and I can listen differently! There are two coloring pages we like, the first is my coloring mandalas and the second is the Color the Temples coloring book.

Both of these are great for older primary kids and youth! They take quiet a bit of time to color, and can be used across multiple speakers. My oldest is almost 10 and sometimes she gets bored with the kids activities in some of the bags. Thats when I pull these out and tell her to work on these! She gets excited about them, and then pulls them out anytime she wants!

You can download one of the Mandalas for free in my Freebie Zone by joining our mailing list at the bottom of this post! Or the all 6 of them are available for purchase here.

A few more General Conference ideas for kids that involved coloring are the following. Scratch art, this is a little messy with the black stuff you scratch off, but fun for everyone. Poster boards, it’s always fun when you can color on something big! And kraft paper on the table to use all weekend long!

General Conference Guessing Game

For the last few years, we have played this fun and silly General Conference Game! It adds little bit of excitement as each speaker stands up to see what color tie they’re wearing. Or to hear the intermediate hymn. We love guessing about where in the world all the new temples will be built! And it just adds another small fun element and is one of my favorite general conference ideas for kids!

And the best news is you can download it for free along with lots of other goodies by signing up for my newsletter below or at this post! Or if you would prefer it’s available for purchase too right here.

Anyone who knows me, knows my obsession with fun writing pencils, pens and markers! For fun writing markers try out these markers! My kids love when they get the privilege of using “mom’s pens!”

After General Conference...

Goal Charts

After a weekend full of uplifting talks and messages, I usually am pumped up to set some goals and do better! As a family we have been using the children and youth program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for about a year now! I love this program, it is truly inspired!

I feel like goal-setting gets brought up and people stop listening. But trust me, this is an awesome program for kids, family and adults! So once General conference is over, I challenge you to set some goals! Then put your goals somewhere visible! We use these goal charts. And then I laminate them with my at home laminator and laminating sheets. (I promise you will love this investment, can you call it an investment?)

Then we write all of our goals with Wet erase Markers, so they stay on, but aren’t permanent! Once we have accomplished our goals or are ready to make new goals they’re easy to erase! And easy to make new goals! Our whole family seriously loves setting goals with this program and these goal charts!

ENJOY!
