Seriously, having a hobby you are passionate about is a game changer! For all those rough patches in life, having something that brings you joy is so necessary! I look forward to the time I get to spend doing the things I love. And I want to help you find a hobby you’re passionate about too! If you haven’t yet experienced being truly passionate about something, well it’s a great way to motivate and challenge you!

My Story

I have always been a very passionate person. From the time I was a little girl I knew exactly what I wanted. And I have never been afraid of doing whatever possible to get it! But I had a really hard time finding a good outlet to channel all my passion!

When I was a freshman in high school, I tried out for the high school soccer team. And I got cut! I was way disappointed, but looking back I am grateful for the doors it opened. A friend told me she was going to play Lacrosse, and guess what? I didn’t even know what that was! But I bought a stick and started playing.

Hobbies I am passionate about

It was the greatest blessing at that time. It helped me channel all my energy, and feistiness out on the field! And for the first time in my life I understood how important having a hobby was!

I still love a good game of Lacrosse, but have also found other hobbies I love. Now that I am a mom, it’s been so helpful to have other hobbies that help me and motivate me to be a better mom!

I am very passionate about the hobbies that I have! It has made a huge difference in my life to have an outlet!

So let’s find you something you love! Something that makes you excited and motivated!

Determine Your Interests

We all have different interests. And maybe you have lots of interests. But it’s important determine what your interests are.

So ask yourself these questions to help:

  • Do you want a hobby you can do by yourself or that you have to do with others?
  • What kind of activities interest you?
  • Are there hobbies you’ve seen that really speaks to your soul?
  • Is there something you have wanted to try, but haven’t?

Do you have hobbies you used to enjoy that you have put off?

  • Are you interested in indoor hobbies or outdoor hobbies?
  • Do you enjoy collecting things?
  • Any interest in making things?
  • Are there any artistic mediums you are curious about?

There is a great list of hobbies separated into categories that will be helpful after you have answered these questions! But in order to find something new you have to know what interests you! If you hate doing crafts, then scrapbooking probably isn’t for you! Don’t like being outside, find a hobby indoors!

Be Willing to Try New Things

Once you are aware of what your interests are you have to start trying new things! Sometimes it may be difficult to try something you’ve never done before, and you may be terrible at it.

But if you aren’t willing to ever try, you will never find something you are passionate about.

Create a list of 5-10 hobbies with number one being what you’re most interested in learning about.

Be Willing to Try New Things

Then start with number one and begin trying them! If that isn’t what you thought it would be, move onto number 2.

I have tried a few of these, and others I know nothing about! But they look enjoyable to me, and I’d like to give them a try! They look challenging and fun!

When I first started playing Lacrosse I knew nothing about it! I had never even seen a game!! So even if it is completely foreign territory, if you’re interested, TRY IT!

Invest in Yourself

Invest In Yourself

I totally understand the struggle of invest in yourself. There are so many other things your money can go towards.

But the benefits of having a hobby and doing something you love far outweigh most things you can buy.

There are hobbies that you can start for little to nothing. And other hobbies are very expensive. I can’t even begin tell you what we’ve spent on woodworking tools!

But my husband loves it, and it’s a great outlet for him! And it’s been worth it to invest in something he loves.

When we were newly married and literally living on nothing, we taught ourselves how to crochet. We would sit side by side, talking cause we had no TV, and crochet.

It was really fun to be able to do something together, that didn’t cost a lot of money. And surprisingly we both enjoyed it. The cost? About $10 in yarn and crochet hooks.

Whether it’s a course you purchase to learn more, a book, or supplies, the investment in yourself is well worth it! While there are lots of free resources, keep in mind that at some point in order to learn more, you may have to invest more!

Keep Going

Unless you just have a natural aptitude for something, you likely will have to put in a lot of work to become good at it. Like I have said in my posts to teach how to letter you have to practice!

And you have to practice frequently! Doing something 5 times and throwing in the towel is not enough.

Finding a hobby you’re passionate about will be impossible if you give up easily.

Keep Going To find Passion

One of the greatest things about the internet is how much free information you can get. Just do a google search to give you tips and advice. Follow people on Instagram or Facebook who are doing that hobby. And follow their techniques and procedures.

Most of the hobbies my husband and I like to do we have taught ourselves. We have watched videos and tutorials and through trial and error have figured it out!

Not only do we have hobbies we are excited and proud of. But we know the amount of work we put into ourselves because we taught ourselves!

Keep going when you feel discouraged or feel like you aren’t any good.

Give Yourself Time

Give Yourself Time

You have probably heard the saying it takes 10,000 hours to truly master something. That’s 90 minutes a day for 20 years, that is a TON of time!

There are arguments that you can actually master things in less time than that. But the reality is it is going to take time in order to develop a skill.

Be patient with yourself as you progress.

Give yourself the time you need to learn the skill you want.

I practiced hand lettering every single day, for hours. Literally hours! And it took me four months until what I wrote looked somewhat like calligraphy.

It’s taken me about 3 years to fine-tune and really feel comfortable as a hand-lettering artist. And I still have a lot to learn! Learning how to hand letter opened doors for me to be able to create original hand lettered fonts. It has been super rewarding to expand my skill set, and learn new things!

Give yourself time to develop the skills you want. You’ll be glad you put in the work.

Don't be Afraid to Change Your Mind

We have this bad habit as humans to hold onto things that may not be benefiting us. But a hobby is something you should love and enjoy.

If you get to the point where it isn’t enjoyable anymore, it’s time to find something else!

This can be really hard if you have invested a lot of money into it. Try to sell what you have purchased, or donate to a second hand store for someone else to try.

The point is don’t continue to do something you don’t enjoy.

If you’re hesitant to then start over and try something else. Don’t be! There have been a lot of things I’ve tried that weren’t for me! But I’m so grateful I kept going to find something that recharges me!

Pursue until You're Satisfied

Pursue until you've found passion

This can be true in two different scenarios. The first, finding a hobby you love and pursuing it as far as you want to be satisfied in your skills.

Or pursuing new hobbies until you find something you’re satisfied with!

In either scenario, pursue until you find passion!

Once you develop and learn a new skill, dream big! What do you want to achieve with your hobby?

What projects, or aspects of this hobby do you want to know more about? Do you want to monetize this hobby? Or how can you use this hobby to better your life, or the lives of those around you?

Don’t stop until you are satisfied and proud of the hobby you’re passionate about!

Begin Now!

Most people have something they have wanted to do! Just start! Take that leap of faith and try!!

Any investment you make toward finding something that engages your mind is worth it!

We live in such a go go world. Having a hobby you love and are truly passionate about makes a huge difference.

So get started, TODAY!

Comment below and let me know what you’ve tried, and what you’re loving!
