Start a tradition. Capture the moment. Help your kids feel excited and ready.
There’s something so special about the first day of school. Whether it’s your child’s very first time walking into a classroom or they’re heading into middle or high school. It marks a fresh beginning for the whole family.
It’s also the perfect time to slow down, celebrate the little things, and create traditions that make your kids feel seen and supported. That’s why I’ve created a set of back-to-school printables. Including 2025–2026 First Day of School signs for preschool through senior year. Designed to help you capture those big milestone moments.
And to help keep that momentum going all year long, I’m also sharing a few of my favorite simple back-to-school traditions. As well as two extra printables that are all about helping your kids grow in confidence, responsibility, and love for learning.
Start the Year with a First Day of School Photo Tradition
You don’t need an elaborate backdrop or Pinterest-worthy props—just print out one of these First Day of School signs, hand it to your child, and snap a photo by your front door. These signs are clean, simple, and ready to use for preschool through senior year.
It’s a tradition that’s quick, meaningful, and gives you a way to look back and see just how much your child has grown over the years.

2. Special First-Day Breakfast
Even if it’s just frozen waffles, you can make it special with a candle, a fun plate, or a quick note at their seat. Kids remember the feeling more than the food.
3. After-School Reflection Time
When they come home buzzing with stories or feeling a little overwhelmed, set aside five minutes to ask questions and really listen. Use a notebook, a conversation card, or just talk as you have a snack together.
4. Printable School Year Goals Sheet
Older kids love setting simple goals for the year, and it gives them a sense of ownership. Whether it’s “read 10 chapter books” or “try something new,” this can be a great confidence-builder.
Help Your Kids Stay on Top of Reading Goals
One of the easiest ways to build learning habits early in the school year is by helping your kids track their reading. Our Kids Reading Planner makes it fun and simple, with space to record books, track minutes read, and set achievable goals.
Whether your child is a reluctant reader or devours books before bed, this printable helps keep them motivated throughout the year.
